Introducing History 10s

Hello everyone and welcome to “The History 10s”, a BRAND NEW history podcast now available for download and listening on ITunes, Spotify, Google Play, and more!

So what exactly will you discover by listening to “The History 10s”? In this podcast series – narrated, edited, and produced by Andrew Baldwin – you will discover, learn, and hopefully be entertained by fascinating facts about history…10 short stories at a time!

Each episode has 10 short historical stories in it (hence the name “The History 10s”). These 10 stories in each episode are all based around a central theme, a theme that often is a little-explored angle of history. For example, have you ever thought about how animals have changed world history? Have you ever thought about how weather events affected the outcome of a war? Have you ever thought about how the use of alcohol played a role in the outcome of major historical events? With “The History 10s”, Andrew tells 10 short stories addressing these unique angles of history. For example, in episode one, Andrew tells 10 short stories about how different animal species have changed world history.

So now some background on how “The History 10s” came into existence…

Andrew is an avid fan of history and believes in the importance of educating yourself on it so that we can have a better understanding of the world we live in today as well as be prepared for the future. Andrew can’t remember where he’s heard it, but he loves and lives by the line: “you can’t tell where you’re going if you don’t know where you’ve been.”

However, Andrew’s love for – and understanding of the importance of – history didn’t really come to fruition until 2009. Back then, while sitting inside on a rainy day looking for some entertainment, he was told by his brother-in-law, Thom, about a history podcast that Thom thought was really good. That podcast, when Andrew started listening, was in the middle of a multi-part series talking about the Eastern Front of the Second World War. That series is called “Ghosts of the Ostfront” and that podcast is called “Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History”. After just one episode of listening, Andrew was hooked. Dan Carlin’s absolutely exhilarating style of story-telling of some of the most incredible moments in world history ignited a passion for history that Andrew never knew he had. Not only that, it made Andrew not only want to learn as much as he could about history, but to also share stories about history with others via a podcast of his own. It took about (appropriately) 10 years for this vision to become a reality, but in early 2020, the podcast “History 10s” was born.

The one main angle that Andrew takes with “The History 10s” that makes it a little different from Carlin’s “Hardcore History” and some of the other great history podcasts out there is to present facts and lessons from history as a series of short stories rather than a massive, epic, long, single storytelling event. If you’re not careful, learning about history can become overwhelming due to the sheer amount of information that goes into learning the stories of the past while also understanding context so we can relate these past stories to our present and future.

Wanting to avoid this trap, Andrew seeks to provide fun short stories (10 at a time) that provide excellent information about history and at same time, cover most of the major periods and events of history; all while not overwhelming people with too immersive of a dive into the past.

We hope that you enjoy “The History 10s” and thank you for your support!
